Lucky Cabbagetowners! Kendall & Co. is a charming boutique filled with accent decor, rugs, window treatment, lamps and furnishings – all from local and international designers. The store is probably best described as a work/shop. On one side of the long space is a fine gallery of well-chosen, surprisingly affordable home decor. Pieces that, for the most part, you will not find elsewhere. The other wall is a series of open offices which house the design team. Kendall & Co. is a 20 year old interior design firm that evolved to include a retail space earlier this year in an effort to engage the community, demystify the design process, and make interior designers as accessible as regular shopping. It works.
The product for sale is unique and affordable, adjectives that don’t usually share a sentence in Toronto. A vintage hardware hanging lamp ($55), Indonesian shadow puppet ($24), and some very cool Le Rochere glassware adorned with bumble bees and dragonflies ($12 to $16). Pieces are bought in limited numbers to ensure a certain level of exclusivity.
Series of stackable Dinnerware and Serveware are Tabletop Art Collectibles that convert into platters, serving bowls, soup bowls, tureens, dinner plates, cups and jars.
These ceramic torpedo vases are “da bomb”. The firm and its products show an awareness of the world – all items are fair trade and hand made. A portion of the proceeds goes to ensuring early childhood education. This is how we need to think about our world now – a global reach, but with local impact.
